My Role as County Chair

As County Chair, my responsibility is to serve our local Republican Party fairly, uphold our rules and platform, and encourage informed participation in the political process.

Doug Pethoud

Garfield County Republican Party Chair

Responsibilities of the County Chair

The OKGOP Rules designate the County Chair as the executive officer of the County Committee. Responsibilities include enforcing party rules, carrying out the direction of the County Committee and County Convention, and assisting with Republican Party activities and campaigns within the county.

Beyond these responsibilities, I believe one of our most important duties is supporting and defending the Republican Party Platform.

Supporting Our Platform

The Platform represents the principles, priorities, and goals of the Republican Party. It provides a standard by which we can evaluate our candidates, elected officials, and ourselves as members of the party.

For elected officials, voting records can help voters determine how closely their actions align with these principles. Evaluating new candidates without a voting record can be more difficult.

The OKGOP Certified Program gives Republican candidates an opportunity to demonstrate their agreement with the party platform and provides voters with additional information when evaluating candidates.

Giving Candidates a Voice

Our county party believes voters benefit from hearing directly from candidates and considering their ideas.

We encourage all Republican candidates to contact the GCGOP about opportunities to speak and participate in local events. Providing a forum for discussion and debate helps voters make informed decisions and strengthens participation in our political process.

Stay Involved

A strong local party depends on informed and engaged citizens. I encourage everyone to learn about the Republican Party Platform, get to know the candidates, attend local events, and—most importantly—vote.

Thank you for staying informed, participating in our elections, and encouraging others to become involved.
